Routes in the south

Ideas for the weekend

The weekend is the perfect time for many families to go on nature walks, and there is no doubt that in Israel there are many beautiful places where you can walk with the children, or even go on a couple’s walk with your spouse. On the Israel Trail route you will find plenty of beautiful spots and fascinating sites that you can reach alone, with friends, with your spouse, and also with the children. If you decide that you are focusing on the southern and spectacular part of the country, you will find that you have a lot to see for Israel in the south.

Possible routes

Along the Israel Trail in the south there are different and interesting sites, so you can walk between the mountains of Eilat and observe the colorful rocks, reach Timna Park and Amudi Shlomo, tour the Vardit Barak canyons that allow a challenging hike if you arrive after winter, walk along the spectacular plains of the Arava to Ramon Crater. And even continue a little further up (although still in the southern region) and visit the archeological site of Tel Arab, where a replica of the Temple was discovered, and not far from it you will even find Mount Amasa from which you can observe the unusual views of the Arad Valley and Beersheba. There are certainly many hiking spots along the Israel Trail route, so you will have a hard time choosing where to start or where to end, but what is certain is that in any option you choose – enjoy.

Start planning

The Israel Trail in the south offers you plenty of sections of the route that are perhaps the most beautiful along the way, certainly for desert enthusiasts. Hiking trails in the south are certainly preferable if you are going on a trip between February and May, when the chance of rains is lower compared to other hiking trails in the center or north. An important issue to consider when deciding on the nature of the route and its beginning is that the south of the country is a warmer and more challenging area than the north for example, so be prepared accordingly with equipment and plenty of water. If so, before you go out, go through the long list of routes that are along the Israel Trail and according to the time available to you, your season and your physical ability, choose what an amazing experience.
